A Must to Avoid (Herman's Hermits)

6 FEBRUARY 1966

The Herman’s Hermits single ‘A Must to Avoid’ was at its peak chart position of #8 on the US Billboard chart, and #6 in the UK.

1965-66 was their career peak. Herman's Hermits specialised in lightweight guitar pop like this, for which there was a huge market, and they reportedly outsold the Beatles in 1965. Even so, they dropped out of style as the music world transformed around them, although they did release some excellent stuff in the years to come. Herman's Hermits were not a 'Woodstock band'.

This song was written by the late P.F. Sloane and was his second Top Ten hit, after ‘Eve of Destruction’.

The clip above is from the movie ‘When the Boys Meet the Girls’.
