Till the End of the Day (The Kinks)

3 FEBRUARY 1966

The Kinks’ ‘Till the End of the Day’ was at its peak UK chart position of #8. It only reached #50 on the US Billboard chart.

This was a bit of a return (albeit formulaic) to their power-chord rock format after releasing a couple of slower singles earlier in 1965 (‘Set Me Free’ and ‘See My Friends’). It was a lyrically simple (almost banal) song compared to the much more inventive material they were starting to produce around this time and would perfect in their later 1966 releases ('Dedicated Follower of Fashion' and 'Sunny Afternoon').

This was produced by Sheldon 'Shel' Talmy, an American who worked in London with the Who and the Kinks in the mid-60s (he also did 'Friday on My Mind' with the The Easybeats).

Recorded: 23–30 October 1965 at Pye Studios (No. 2), London
Released: 19 November 1965 (UK); 2 March 1966 (US)
Highest chart position: #8 (UK), #50 (US)
Label: Pye 7N 15981 (UK); Reprise 0454 (US)
Writer: Ray Davies
Producer: Shel Talmy

Till the End of the Day (The Kinks)

'Baby, I feel good
From the moment I arise
Feel good from morning
Till the end of the day
Till the end of the day

Yeah, you and me
We live this life
From when we get up
Till we go sleep at night
You and me were free
We do as we please, yeah
From morning, till the end of the day
Till the end of the day

Yeah, I get up
And I see the sun up
And I feel good, yeah
'Cause my life has begun
You and me were free
We do as we please, yeah
From morning, till the end of the day
Till the end of the day

You and me were free
We do as we please, yeah
From morning, till the end of the day
Till the end of the day
Till the end of the day
Till the end of the day
Till the end of the day
Till the end of the day'
