This was a bit of a return (albeit formulaic) to their power-chord rock format after releasing a couple of slower singles earlier in 1965 (‘Set Me Free’ and ‘See My Friends’). It was a lyrically simple (almost banal) song compared to the much more inventive material they were starting to produce around this time and would perfect in their later 1966 releases ('Dedicated Follower of Fashion' and 'Sunny Afternoon').
This was produced by Sheldon 'Shel' Talmy, an American who worked in London with the Who and the Kinks in the mid-60s (he also did 'Friday on My Mind' with the The Easybeats).
